I was stuck in the study loop for so long, that I never realized I was not going nowhere with it.
Then it hit me: Nothing is more effective than action itself to succeeding in life. But because I had been stuck in loop for so long, I had forgotten how to take action. Most of the time, I didn't even believe in my own thoughts.
This is what I learned from real experience and books on how to break out of the study loop and take action toward a successful life.
Basic Step for Taking Action
I read different sources to find out why I'm avoiding action and how to solve them. (Sources are listed at the bottom)
Reason for Avoiding Action
We avoid action for many reasons, and reasons can be different according to people. But there are some common problems we all face.
The top reasons for this are:
- Action stays in mind forever
- Action is too big and hard to do
- Not making a commitment to action
- Not having a clear action plan
- Feel unsure about the result
- Feel the fear of failing
Solving the Problems
This is only the basic problem. If I solve them, it will help to take action, but the habit will come from repeatedly taking action. So let's know how to solve them.
Action stays in mind forever
When we think of doing something we just think, so the action stays in our mind forever, and we forget all about it. Because we forget, we never take action.
To solve this, we can use a pen-paper or digital to-do list to write down the work. Seems simple but adds a big difference.
Action is too big and hard to do
When we think of doing something, we see the big picture of it. That gives our minds the signal: "Too much to do, we need more effort."
As a result, we start avoiding it and we never take action.
We can solve it by making a list of small 5-10 minute action for our big goal from the list.
Not making a commitment to action
We think about doing it, but never want to get a reminder about it. We just want to feel the work is done.
We can just add a note or reminder on the digital app and make a commitment by adding time and date.
Not having a clear action plan
We want to do a job, but when we think of doing it, the first thing that comes to mind is "how to do it?" So we started to avoid it.
We can solve it by making a step-by-step action plan for our 5-10 minute action block and adding it to the list.
Feel unsure about the result
It happens to all of us at some point. When we think of doing anything big, our minds start to say, "What if it doesn't work?"
To deal with it, we must let go of the idea of "do big or nothing." First, get the focus off the big goal list and focus on the small action list.
The small action which don't have a big effect on life if they fail, but there are the ones which give 80% off result in big goal. (Other 20% is risk-taking)
So just which from "Do big or do nothing" to "Do small or smallest but do."
Doing it is more important than the goal itself.
Feel the fear of failing
People will always hate failing, there's no changing it.
But the magic comes in how we deal with failure. According to many sources, failure is one of the biggest tools to improve something from good to best.
Then how does failure help us? So failure is one of the brutal and most direct feedback is there. It can help you to locate flow in your action better than other feedback.
If you want to go big, a quality failure processing system can give you more data on your field than any other type result.
So feel the fear but do it any way for feedback and data
